HRevolution Session Preview with Craig Fisher

Ben Eubanks is one of the organizers of the upcoming HRevolution unconference in Chicago on May 7th and 8th, 2010.  He asked me to give a preview of the session I will be leading there with Jessica Merrill.  Here is the post from the HRevolution Facebook Page.

I had a chance to catch up with Craig Fisher (@fishdogs on Twitter) recently to ask him about what his session at HRevolution would entail. Check out his response below. If you're anything like me, you're going to be drooling to attend the session he's facilitating!

Social Media Secrets Outside of the HR Box and How to Build a Recruiting Rock Star Brand

by Craig Fisher

I am a big believer that everyone you know is a potential lead. Or at least they have the potential to refer quality job candidates or other business to you. So I teach people how to build targeted referral networks, but also how to better tap their existing personal networks. If your network is aware of what you do and are used to getting value from the information you provide in your social channels, they are far more likely to be responsive when you reach out for help.

So how do we strike the perfect balance of giving and receiving to generate helpful responses?

And how do we avoid wasting time doing that?

First we have to break out of our HR and Recruiting mind set and become marketers. We should all be indirectly marketing ourselves on a regular basis in order to build our personal brands and generate the best leads and referrals. But few in HR participate in groups and organizations that are not related to our field or industry.

I'll show you where to find some hidden treasures of real world and online social networking that are outside of the HR box. And I'll show you how building a strong personal brand can make your job easier and help you to be more effective at the same time.

Let Craig know if you like what you see. I know he'd love to hear what you think!
